Council sets work session on downtown priorities and grants six-month construction extension

At the Jan. 13 council meeting, the mayor summarized the top seven priorities compiled from the comprehensive plan and Main Street recommendations — including aligning zoning with downtown priorities, integrating infrastructure planning with land use and establishing a framework for downtown revitalization. The council set a work session for 4:00 p.m. on Jan. 27 to review and prioritize next steps.
Separately, the council considered a request related to a property on 23rd Southwest where a contractor had established a pad and block but had been delayed by weather. The chief (or planning/inspections presenter) requested a six-month extension so the owner could complete construction; Councilor Williams moved to grant a six-month extension, Councilman Harris seconded, and the council approved the motion by voice vote.
The mayor also notified the council that the Fayette Civic Center Board has submitted the name Destin Stowe to replace Beverly McCollum Whitfield (resigned); that appointment will be on a future meeting agenda for formal consideration.
