La Verne Library to restore extended weekday hours, resumes programs and lists 2026 closures

Library staff presented several operational updates at the Jan. 12 La Verne Library Board meeting, including revised public hours, program restarts and the library’s 2026 closure calendar.
Miss Donna told the board the library will reopen extended weekday hours: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the library will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays. She explained that patron computers are still unavailable and that keeping the library closed on Saturdays avoids drawing patrons who expect computer access. "Patron computers are still unavailable, but we look forward to that happening whenever that occurs," she said. The transcript records that board members asked about Saturday hours and were told the change aims to avoid disappointing patrons who would come in specifically for computer access.
Staff also announced the annual book sale runs through Jan. 17 and may be extended if inventory remains; proceeds support the library. Youth and family programming was reviewed: Homeschool Explorers (kindergarten–fifth grade) meets Mondays at 10 a.m.; Little Learners (preschool) and Books and Babies (birth to 24 months) resume with story times through May 14 to prepare for summer reading. Miss Sherry leads the Books and Babies program; staff introduced Ashley Gardner as a contract storyteller who previously taught kindergarten and runs a business called KinderReady. A teen Dungeons & Dragons program for ages 12–17 will meet every other Thursday 5–6:30 p.m. through April 9, with the first meeting on Jan. 22.
Miss Donna listed the library’s planned 2026 closures and related regular days off (Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Good Friday/RDOs; Memorial Day/RDOs; Juneteenth; Independence Day; Labor Day/RDOs; Veterans Day; Thanksgiving holiday; Christmas holidays) and announced the board meeting schedule for 2026 (March 9; May 11; July 13; Sept. 14; Nov. 9). She said her goal is to distribute agendas a few days in advance when possible.
Board members thanked staff and welcomed new members before the meeting adjourned.
