Two energy-efficient "innovation cottages" set for ribbon cutting Friday in Parsley

Accomack County will host a ribbon-cutting Friday at 11 a.m. to celebrate two energy-efficient "innovation cottages" built with nearly $500,000 in grant funding from Virginia Housing.
County Planner Shauntice Ridley said the county partnered with Virginia Housing and developer Bryce Locante to place two energy-efficient homes equipped with solar shingles. "Last year, we were granted almost $500,000 from Virginia Housing," Ridley said, adding that the homes are complete and that the public is invited to tour the cottages during an open house; the address given was 24095 Willis Street, Parsley.
Ridley said the developer, Bryce Locante, will be available through mid-afternoon for visitors who want a walkthrough. The event will include light refreshments and a lunch; staff encouraged commissioners and the public who can attend to stop by.
The two houses were funded under an innovation grant intended to demonstrate energy-efficient residential building approaches; Ridley said the grant supports demonstration projects and that additional homes could follow under future programs.
