Council adopts multiple proclamations recognizing historic figures and awareness months

Denver City Council used portions of its Oct. 20 agenda to adopt several ceremonial proclamations.
Proclamation 15-59 honored former Denver District Attorney Bert Keating; Marshall Fogel, a deputy DA hired by Keating, and DA John Walsh accepted the recognition and recounted Keating’s role in inclusive hiring and notable prosecutions. Proclamation 15-62 recognized Connect for Health Colorado and promoted open enrollment (Nov. 1–Jan. 15); Kevin Patterson of Connect for Health said the marketplace serves more than 35,000 Denver residents and that roughly 80% of those receive financial assistance in 2025. The council also adopted proclamations declaring October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month (15-60) and National Disability Employment Awareness Month (15-61); representatives of community organizations, the Denver Women’s Commission and disability advocates accepted the proclamations and urged action beyond ceremony.
These proclamations were adopted by recorded votes as part of the meeting and included brief acceptance remarks from affected organizations. Councilmembers used the opportunity to highlight local services, outreach and ongoing challenges tied to each proclamation topic.
