Planning staff reports strong public turnout for comprehensive‑plan process; next survey in January

Community Planning Director Kellen Spelman told the commission on Nov. 18 that the comprehensive‑plan update effort has drawn substantial public engagement: seven open houses held over a two‑week period drew nearly 300 attendees, staff received thousands of public comments and roughly 2,000 people completed an earlier community survey.
Spelman said staff have posted the outreach materials, vision statements and draft goals on the borough website and will publish the full survey results for public review. He said the next major milestone is a January community‑wide survey that will ask more specific questions on draft actions, and that an advisory group will meet before that date to provide guidance.
Spelman also reminded commissioners of scheduling changes through winter: the commission will hold one meeting per month, with the next meeting set for Dec. 16 (currently scheduled as a Board of Adjustment appeal). He asked commissioners who attended the open houses to note how public comment shaped subsequent refinements to draft goals.
Commissioners thanked staff for outreach and the detailed presentations at open houses. No public commenters were signed up for tonight’s meeting on non‑agenda items.
Staff will return with refined draft vision statements and goals after the January outreach and advisory‑group input, and they plan a work session with the assembly and commission in January.
