Council recognizes Colfax Marathon, FBI agents and Latino community organizations

At its Oct. 14 meeting, Denver City Council heard a presentation from Colfax Marathon organizers, received remarks from its title sponsor and adopted two proclamations honoring community organizations and historic public servants.

Andrea Dowie presented the Colfax Marathon’s 20th anniversary plans and highlighted the event’s size and charitable impact, including an estimated $5 million in economic impact and awards and donations to nonprofits and school teams. Donna Upson, vice president of sales at Cigna, thanked the council and noted Cigna’s five‑year title‑sponsorship relationship.

Council adopted Proclamation 251533 honoring FBI special agents Roy K. Moore and Donald Sylvester for their investigative work in the 1955 United Airlines Flight 629 bombing; family members and former agents spoke in acceptance. The proclamation text cited the agents’ investigative contributions and directed a copy be transmitted to the FBI Denver Field Office.

Later in the meeting, the council adopted proclamations recognizing Denver Cafecito’s 34‑year history of Latina leadership and honoring dozens of organizations that contribute to advocacy and empowerment of Hispanic, Latino and Chicano communities in Denver. Sponsors and attendees described Cafecito as a longstanding community network offering mentorship, civic engagement and mutual support.
