"I had a question about the annexation, for Loxley Elementary. So you for annexation, you had to be adjacent to the municipality. Correct?" the board member (Bradley) asked. He noted the property is in the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction and said, "I mean, City of Loxley can already provide those services for the school. I mean, we're in their ETJ, so they should be able to provide those services where it is right now."
Facilities staff responded that the city has a master plan locating a fire station adjacent to the school site, and that coordination with the contractor and city is underway. Frank told the board, "That's where the city's master plan is to have the fire station ... that's where the new facility will be going, next door to the school." Bradley asked for confirmation from Nash about policing details before he would consider the issue resolved.
The discussion clarified that some services can be provided under the existing ETJ but that staff would follow up with additional confirmation about police coverage and other operational details. No formal action was taken on annexation during the work session.
