House members preview workplace accommodation, vacation payout and domestic home‑care bills

Several committee members used the Jan. 13 meeting to preview bills they expect to bring in 2026.
Rep. Travis Nelson described two anticipated bills. The first would require the Bureau of Labor and Industries to produce guidance and informational materials to assist employers and employees with the reasonable and interactive accommodation process, restrict unnecessary minimum physical requirements in job postings, and allow support persons at accommodation meetings. The second would require employers to cash out earned PTO and vacation time on termination; Nelson said the bill excludes sick time and mirrors practices already common in parts of the state.
Representative Ricky Smith previewed his first bill, designed to remove an exemption so that domestic home‑care companions who assist elderly Oregonians would be subject to the same wage and overtime rules as other classifications. Smith said the proposal codifies a 2016 definition in response to a federal rollback to a 1974 standard and clarifies third‑party provider responsibilities.
Both members said technical questions will be handled in public hearings when drafts are available.
