Medford council reviews budget software, advances manager search and confirms multiple appointments

At the Dec. 3 meeting, Medford council officers reported on internal business that included a budget software update, the city manager recruitment timeline and multiple board and commission appointments.
Staff previewed a proposed contract for new budget and financial reporting software that staff said would cost roughly $20,000 per year but is expected to save staff time and allow more public transparency for the city’s budget. "The net cost comes out to roughly $20,000 per year, for this new software, but not only does that save us a bunch of time, it also gives us some really cool availability to be more transparent with our budget," a council officer said.
The council discussed a recruitment process for a permanent city manager and agreed to schedule a study session to define required qualifications and process, aiming to hold a more intensive study session in late January to develop a candidate profile.
Council also appointed Interim City Manager John Beile as the city’s SO Ready liaison (a motion approved by voice vote) and approved a slate of reappointments and appointments to boards and commissions, including Marcy Pierce to the Unified Appeals Board and reappointments to the Cemetery Commission, Police Advisory Committee and Parks and Recreation Commission.
Councilors praised public engagement on the Main Street open house and noted staff will present the budget software contract at an upcoming meeting for further discussion and approval.
