Board members discussed how prescriptive the city should be when adopting tree-care best management practices and whether to reference the ANSI A300 standards in full or only certain sections.
Staff reported the draft rules and regs currently combine language from several jurisdictions (Longmont, Denver, etc.), producing duplication that needs cleanup. The ANSI A300 standard was discussed as a possible baseline for pruning and prescription language; some members cautioned that requiring full A300 compliance may be too prescriptive for local practice, while others said adopting parts of A300 (for pruning procedures) would help standardize prescriptions in the field.
To make progress, members agreed to hold a separate, focused rules-and-regulations meeting before Thanksgiving. After negotiating availability, the group tentatively set that session for Friday the 14th starting at 08:30 to work through sections and prepare a cleaner draft. Members also adjusted the December regular meeting to Dec. 11 to accommodate scheduling conflicts.
Staff will circulate the ANSI/A300 reference material and a cleaned Word draft of the regs prior to the R&R session.
