Los Alamos County Council voted to adopt a set of technical amendments to Chapter 16 of the development code on Oct. 7 aimed at fixing omissions, removing outdated terms and clarifying definitions used in zoning and use tables.
Staff said the 2023 code adoption contained several technical errors and gaps — for example definitions beyond the letter "T" were omitted and certain accessory uses were not properly categorized. Danielle Isaacson explained the corrections are intended to reduce the need for administrative variances and public hearings on minor items such as small accessory structures.
Councilors asked procedural questions, and the Planning Commission had recommended the amendments unanimously. The council adopted the ordinance after motion and roll‑call vote; staff said further code revisions (articles addressing zoning districts and development standards) will proceed next year in coordination with the comprehensive plan update.
