Oro Valley council interviews town attorney finalists in executive session, later approves direction to staff

Oro Valley — The Town Council moved into executive session on Dec. 17 to interview finalists for the town attorney position and later approved direction to the town attorney and necessary staff, the council said.

An unidentified speaker moved, "I move to go into executive session with a human resources director, town attorney, and the town clerk," and the motion was seconded by Council member Murphy. The council voted 6-0 to enter executive session for personnel matters tied to the town attorney search.

The meeting record shows the executive session was described as being "pursuant to ARS 38 dash 4 31.031113," and was identified as addressing personnel matters to interview finalists Matthew Walker, Victoria Torreon and Steven Zurich and to discuss candidate selection and a potential contract. The council indicated the executive session took place in the Hopi Conference Room.

After the council returned to open session and completed a second roll call with seven members present, an unidentified speaker moved "as directed in executive session." Council member Green seconded the motion, which passed 7-0, approving any direction to the town attorney and/or necessary staff stemming from the executive-session discussion of the town attorney search.

The council then moved to adjourn and closed the special session.
