Riverside board approves multiple ordinances, resolution and fee schedule in Jan. 15 meeting

The Village of Riverside board voted on a slate of measures at its Jan. 15 regular meeting, approving a commemorative resolution and several ordinances and administrative actions.

Key outcomes

- Resolution supporting Illinois America 250 commission (Semiquicentennial): Board adopted a resolution expressing formal support for the Illinois America 250 commission’s commemoration activities leading up to July 4, 2026. (Adopted by roll call.)

- Consent agenda: Trustees ratified multiple voucher lists, minutes, commission minutes and department reports; the consent agenda also included resolutions authorizing purchase orders (rock salt from Martin Salt Inc., not to exceed $32,200.56; and a 2026 skid steer purchase from Atlas Bobcat, not to exceed $57,450.27). - Ordinance: Opt out of historic-improvement property-tax assessment relief: Staff explained the program’s 12-year assessment-freeze structure for qualifying historic improvements and recommended continuing Riverside’s long-standing opt-out; trustees adopted the ordinance by roll call.

- Resolution: Extension of final plans for planned-unit development at 28 & 30 E. Burlington Street: Staff requested a one-year extension to allow the developer time to obtain building permits; trustees approved the extension to January 2027.

- Ordinances updating building and fire codes: The board adopted ordinances to update Title 4 (building regulations) and Title 5 (fire regulations) to the most recent codes, bringing Riverside into compliance with state requirements; staff noted local amendments and agreed to notify contractors of changes.

- Ordinance: Special events and village property fee definitions (Title 8): The code was amended to define rental fees for village properties and to raise the special-event application fee from $10 to $25; trustees approved the change.

- Amended fee schedule: Trustees adopted an updated consolidated fee schedule to reflect newly approved fines and fees and to centralize fee language in the municipal code.

- Executive session: The board voted to adjourn to executive session to review minutes lawfully closed under the Open Meetings Act (semiannual review). The President stated no further public action would follow that session.
