Newman City Council adopts consent calendar; staff outline grant, community programs

The Newman City Council on Jan. 13 adopted its consent calendar by a 5-0 vote, approving routine matters including warrants, minutes from Dec. 9, 2025, a resolution adopting the city's investment policy, a resolution on a lease and subscription capitalization policy, acceptance of the capital facilities fee annual report, and authorization for the city manager to execute a memorandum of understanding with Stancorp for sub-allocation of Regional Early Action Planning (REAP 2) funds.
City staff member Michael reminded the council of upcoming compliance and outreach items. "You may have gotten an email from the FPPC," he said, referring to the Fair Political Practices Commission and the upcoming filing deadline in April. Michael also described the city's continuing efforts to secure grant funding for the former Foster Farms property, saying, "We believe we're gonna we're gonna ask for about 1000000 dollars to to clean that up." He said the cleanup would address asbestos and paint on the site to prepare it for private redevelopment with retail at ground level and apartments above.
Other staff updates included parks and recreation programming and public works notifications. Allie said the youth basketball league has started and adult basketball will run Fridays and Sundays from 6 to 9 p.m. at Yolo Middle School. Thomas (Public Works staff) reminded residents that leaf-and-brush pickup continues through March 31 and encouraged participation in a T Street corridor plan workshop scheduled for tomorrow at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The meeting featured no public hearings and there was nothing to report from closed session. With no further business, the council moved to adjourn.
