Meriden City Council adopts consent calendar, approves appointments and waives vetting for Fair Rent Commission

The Meriden City Council moved through its regular business, approving routine items and taking several appointment-related actions intended to get the Fair Rent Commission ready for an upcoming meeting.

The council adopted the consent calendar after Majority Leader moved for adoption and a second was given; members present responded "aye." The council then approved the minutes from Sept. 15, 2025.

Majority Leader introduced an amended memo from the mayor's office to change two appointments: one alternate was moved to a full member who has already served on the Fair Rent Commission, and a new alternate was added to fill the vacancy. The council approved the amended memo.

Citing "critical matters" that need to be heard at the commission’s upcoming October meeting, the majority leader moved to waive the usual two-meeting vetting period for the newly appointed Fair Rent Commission members. The city attorney had asked the council to waive vetting so the commission could address time-sensitive items, the presiding official said; the council voted to waive the vetting requirement.

No vote tallies by member name were recorded in the meeting transcript; the motions were seconded and adopted with members saying "aye" and no recorded opposition. The council also announced upcoming committee meetings: a Finance Committee meeting on Thursday the ninth at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, a Senior Center/health department/building committee meeting on the 15th at 5:30 p.m., and a Public Works/Parks & Recreation Committee meeting on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 5:30 p.m.

After announcements the council adjourned the meeting.
