Rutherford County DSS board welcomes new members and votes to enter closed session on personnel

The Rutherford County Department of Social Services board opened its Dec. 17 meeting by welcoming new board member Lynn Hoppes, appointed by the North Carolina Social Services Board. Hoppes introduced herself and said she retired after 28 years with DSS.
Director Hunt presented a plaque honoring Georgia Steele for service as a board member from 2019–2025; Steele spoke briefly about her experience and thanked staff and fellow board members. The director also introduced new staff across programs and named Rebecca Melton as the department's new executive assistant.
With a quorum present the board approved the agenda by voice vote and moved to table last month’s minutes until the new board member had an opportunity to review them. Later in the meeting a board member moved, and another seconded, to enter closed session pursuant to North Carolina General Statute 143‑318.11(a)(6) to discuss a personnel matter; the motion passed on a voice vote and the board requested the director remain for the closed session.
No personnel details were discussed in open session; the board left for closed session at the meeting's close.
