Somers students advance in regional and national science competitions; SEF plans spring fundraising

Wendy Eagleton, speaking for the district’s science research program, said 16 seniors submitted projects to the Regeneron Science Talent Search and multiple students advanced in regional competitions; two students were named first‑round finalists for national STEM festivals and a group of students will attend invitational competitions. Eagleton said Somers will host the WESF regional fair on March 14 and has received roughly 902 student applications so far, creating a need for volunteer judges.
Rob Adams, representing the Somers Educational Foundation (SEF), said the foundation recently completed its largest project to date (the Primrose playground), funded broadcasting club equipment, and will host a trivia night fundraiser on Feb. 24 at Burger Barn (6:30 p.m., approximately $50 per person or $200 per four‑person team). The foundation raised $300 at a recent cookie swap to support student research.
Nicole Dwyer, speaking for the Athletic Booster Club, highlighted community fundraising for athletics, including a $2,000 grant to the lacrosse team and the installation of a donated wrestling light.
What’s next: SEF asked for volunteer judges for the March WESF regional fair and encouraged community attendance and support for upcoming events.
