Residents urge city to install speed‑limit signs and speed bumps on Summit Drive after near‑misses
Summary

Boynton Beach — Several residents of Chanticleer, Palmland Villas and surrounding neighborhoods addressed the City Commission on Jan. 20 to report repeated high‑speed driving and dangerous turnaround maneuvers on Summit Drive, a local street adjacent to Hunters Run's back entrance.
Marla Wright described a morning incident in which a red sports car — a Ferrari or Lamborghini, she said — emerged from the Hunters Run gate and was "going at least 80 miles per hour," describing the area as lacking speed‑limit signage near the park and playground. "Somebody almost got killed," Wright said, pressing the commission to consider speed signs and speed bumps.
Other residents, including Chip Randall and Albert Edwin Wright III, told the commission that older residents with walkers and children crossing to the neighborhood playground are at particular risk and requested measures such as speed bumps, posted speed limits and a dead‑end sign to reduce cut‑through traffic.
Commissioners acknowledged the concerns and suggested staff follow up with traffic engineering to evaluate signage and calming measures; no formal motion to install physical traffic calming was recorded during the meeting, but the issue was raised for staff consideration.
What happens next: Staff is expected to evaluate traffic‑calming options (signage, speed bumps, turn restrictions) and return with recommendations or work orders as appropriate.
