Augusta task force seeks volunteers for point-in-time count, names new incoming chair

Naomi Harris Stanton, outgoing chair of Augusta’s homeless task force, told the commission the community is in point-in-time (PIT) count season and asked for volunteer support and continued coordination with partner organizations.
Stanton said the PIT count data are submitted to HUD and enable funding opportunities; she credited Bethany Trapp of the Mary Barnes Resource Center and listed partners including Salvation Army, Marion Barnes, Resourced Augusta and the United Way, which will serve as the collaborative applicant for submissions.
Stanton highlighted recent work by the HOTT outreach team (Sheriff's Office and partner agencies) and said the task force has reunited more than two dozen people with families and helped hundreds access services such as mental-health treatment and identification needed for housing. She asked the commission to endorse Pastor Luke Nideh as incoming chair of the Augusta homeless task force.
Commissioners praised Stanton’s leadership, encouraged public participation in the PIT count and said the task force’s meeting schedule and volunteer dates will be posted on the Augusta Richmond County Continuum of Care Facebook page.
No vote was required; commissioners publicly thanked task-force volunteers and encouraged community participation.
