Erie — The Town of Erie Council approved a $25,000 intergovernmental agreement on June 10 with the Weld County Youth Conservation Corps to pilot home water efficiency audits and fixture replacements for Erie residents.
Dylan King, Sustainability and Water Conservation Specialist, described how the Weld County crews will measure flow rates on showerheads, kitchen and bathroom aerators and toilets and replace fixtures that exceed efficiency thresholds. King said replacements will be provided at no cost to homeowners and the program will prioritize Old Town and other disproportionately impacted communities.
"Those replacements will happen for every fixture in the home, so that meet the requirements," King said, describing the scope of service.
Staff said the $25,000 contract equates to roughly $500 per home and that Northern Water is partnering to help cover some equipment costs. Planning and sustainability staff noted the funds come from the water conservation budget in the water enterprise fund rather than the general fund.
Council moved and seconded approval of resolution 25‑2‑90; the motion passed by voice vote. Staff will coordinate outreach with affordable housing partners and return an evaluation after the pilot to determine the program’s value and possible continuation.
