Erie Council appoints Amanda Balhashie as municipal judge

Erie Town Council on April 8 unanimously approved a resolution appointing Amanda Balhashie as the town’s presiding municipal judge and approved a related services agreement.
Danielle Trujillo, the town’s court administrator, told council that the previous judge, Teresa Ablau, chose not to seek reappointment and that council had interviewed three candidates in February before negotiating with Balhashie. Trujillo said the appointment included approval of a services agreement and requested that the town clerk administer the oath if the resolution passed.
Council members expressed support for Balhashie’s selection. Councilor Baer said the slate of candidates was strong and that Balhashie “stood out as being really excellent and committed to the community.” After a motion and second, the council voted by voice vote to approve the resolution. The town clerk then administered the oath and Balhashie took the position.
The appointment takes effect immediately; the resolution number recorded on the agenda was 25179. Council did not include additional amendments to the services agreement during the meeting.
