Staff confirmed the application had been received and encouraged the group to discuss partnership options with staff and the Main Street merchants.
Commissioners discussed how to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026. Options ranged from a single large city event on July 4 to a series of smaller, themed additions to existing programming. Commissioners and staff emphasized limited city resources and recommended leveraging partners — including Golden History, Merchants on Main and the fairgrounds — to distribute workload and costs. One commissioner recommended avoiding duplicate events on the same day to prevent dilution of attendance.
No formal action was taken; staff said they would continue conversations with applicants and could facilitate a referral to City Council if requested.
