Friends report strong fundraising; board approves $1,000 seed grant for March event

Following a request from the Friends (on Marion's behalf) for $1,000 in seed money to underwrite the March event, the board discussed possible sources of the funds, including the library board account. The chair asked that Marion appear at a future meeting to explain how the funds would be used. The chair said he was "hearing Irene making a motion to approve a payment of $1,000, presumably from the board account." The motion was made and seconded, and the board approved the payment by unanimous voice vote with the understanding that Marion would return within two months with a detailed accounting of planned expenditures.
Frank also described the Friends' fall and spring fundraising activities, including a semiannual $5-a-bag book sale in October and a donors' dinner that raised additional support. He noted the Friends help secure grants and allow the library to access funding typically unavailable to municipal departments.
