City Manager Bridal Daniels used his report to inform the council that Megan Pela has started as Meriden’s new planning and zoning director and will also oversee housing and building departments. The manager said Pela was previously employed in Manchester’s planning department and invited residents to stop by her office on the first floor of City Hall.
Daniels also reported completion of the long-overdue renovation of the city clerk’s vault to comply with state law and record-retention requirements, including removal of carpeting, replacement with a concrete floor, repainting and electrical work to reduce fire risk to historic records.
Daniels promoted the 20th Annual National Night Out at Hubbard Park on Aug. 5, 2025, noting participation from the Meriden Police and Fire Departments, LifeStar Medical, Hunter’s Ambulance, FBI and other public-safety and service partners. He said the event is free, will feature over 50 civic and nonprofit organizations and that a medical helicopter will land during the program.
Separately, Mike, a representative of the Meriden Farmers Market, described the market as a 15-week volunteer-run season that distributes $30,000 worth of free coupon vouchers to SNAP families and eligible seniors; he encouraged residents to attend upcoming events including a joint business expo with the Chamber of Commerce.
These items were presented as informational reports; the meeting record does not show immediate policy votes attached to the personnel or facility updates.
