The Stamford Planning Board voted to accept a $15,115.93 supplemental change order for the recently completed Lakeside Drive Bridge project after city engineering staff said the water line proved deeper and required additional valves.
City Engineer Lou Castle explained the additional work was needed when the contractor encountered an older, deeper 16-inch water main crossing the reservoir, requiring extra valves to restore service. The original relocation payment from the utility for the waterline had been $363,525; the additional $15,115.93 is being contributed by the utility, Aquarian Water.
"During the relocation, it's a pretty old line. It was deeper than Aquarian's record drawings identified and it called for some additional valves," Castle said, describing why the change order was necessary. Staff characterized the item as accepting Aquarian’s contribution into the capital budget; the board moved and the motion passed unanimously.
The bridge itself was funded by a state grant, while the waterline relocation costs and the supplemental charge are covered by the utility’s contribution, according to the city engineer.
