Committee advances cannabis enforcement language to public hearing

The Norwalk Ordinance Committee voted Jan. 20 to send proposed language on enforcement and appeals in Chapter 29 (cannabis) to public hearing.
Brian (city staff) told the committee the ordinance covers enforcement for the small set of licensed adult‑use cannabis retailers in the city and clarifies timelines for appeals of fines or citations. “This was, to set up, to allow for, I believe it's 3 businesses now to sell cannabis in the city of Norwalk,” Brian said, adding that state regulation controls many aspects of activity and revenue sharing.
Staff said a portion of the proposed language addresses the period provided to a licensee to appeal a decision and the penalties that apply for violations (for example, fines or citations). Chief Walsh was present for the discussion and available to advise on enforcement questions.
Committee members had no further objections and voted to move the item to public hearing. The public hearing will bring any civic comment before the committee returns the item with recommended edits.
