Homefront Military Network briefs commissioners on veteran services, emergency aid

Kate Hatton, executive director of Homefront Military Network, briefed the El Paso County Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday about the nonprofit’s role connecting service members, veterans and families to resources, and the group’s recent program data.
Hatton told commissioners the organization provided “about, $230,000 in emergency financial assistance last year” and has provided “more than $6,500,000 in emergency financial assistance since 2004.” She described a navigation‑centered model of case management, long‑term client engagement and partnership with 57 community agencies. “We make a lot of referrals to partner agencies — 5,800 last year,” she said.
Commissioners asked how Homefront coordinates with the county veteran service office and about eligibility and vetting for assistance. Hatton said the county veterans office is a partner in monthly trainings and that Homefront refers people there for VA benefits; she described a case review committee, documentation checks and financial coaching to promote long‑term stability.
Hatton also summarized funding sources as a mix of philanthropy, corporate donations and foundation grants and said the organization spends most of its funds on programs. Commissioners praised the merger that created Homefront and noted the organization’s role in preventing homelessness and supporting employment pathways for veterans.
