Linn County supervisors discuss proposed 50-year road-use deal with Wendland Quarries

Kurt Logan, a representative of the county road department, told the Linn County Board of Supervisors that a prior 25-year road-use agreement with Wendland Quarries had expired and county staff are negotiating what he described as “basically a 50 year extension of the agreement.” The proposed deal would require the quarry to hard‑surface specified sections of Lynn Johnson Road (from the quarry entrance east of Maple Grove Road) and Maple Grove Road (from Lynn Johnson Road north to Wright Brothers Boulevard) and take on ongoing maintenance in exchange for material from the quarry.
Board members said the arrangement is intended to respond to increased heavy‑truck traffic serving nearby data centers and construction projects. Supervisors noted similar quarry‑maintenance agreements already exist elsewhere in the county and described the proposal as within normal county practice, albeit at greater scale for the site in question.
The board agreed to keep the item on the regular agenda for the Wednesday meeting so county staff and quarry representatives can return to answer any outstanding questions and finalize terms. No formal vote to adopt the agreement was taken on Dec. 8.
