Scott County authorizes county engineer to manage secondary road closures and speed reductions for 2026

Scott County supervisors reviewed a routine resolution on Jan. 13 that would authorize the county engineer to implement necessary secondary road closures and reduce speed limits during the 2026 calendar year to protect workers and the traveling public.
"This resolution would authorize the county engineer to implement necessary secondary road closures and reduce speed limits during the 2026 calendar year for construction, maintenance, and emergency activities to ensure the safety of the workers and the traveling public," the county engineer said during the Committee of the Whole meeting.
The engineer clarified that closures related to community-sponsored events, such as the Quad City Triathlon, are not covered by this resolution and will be handled separately. No formal vote or tally was recorded on the item at the committee meeting; routine items of this type are presented annually in January, according to staff.
The board did not raise objections during the presentation, and the item proceeded as a routine annual authorization to give staff authority to manage temporary traffic restrictions and speed reductions as needed through the year.
