Washington Township honors retiring police chief and swears in multiple promotions

Former Police Chief John Calamari was recognized by the Township of Washington council on Jan. 8 for 32 years of service to the Washington Township Police Department.
The council presented plaques and tributes to Calamari before administering oaths for multiple promotions. Captain Michael Blott — whose tenure the council described beginning in August 1996 and including prior ranks and awards — was sworn in, as were Lieutenant Richard Parcells, Sergeant Christopher Rosenbrook, Corporal Peter Berezka, Corporal Michael Sinatra and Officer Justin Besh. Officials recited each officer’s service history and collateral duties, including firearms and training responsibilities, traffic and domestic‑violence liaison roles, and participation in county task forces.
Town officials framed the promotions as part of routine personnel management and noted the department’s reliance on these officers’ training and institutional knowledge. No new budgeted funds were announced as part of the promotions. The council then moved on to other business.
