Commission to engage with Safe Streets grant and regional transportation planning

Planning staff briefed the commission on the Safe Streets for All work now underway: a research grant will yield a prioritized project list followed by an implementation grant the staff described as likely to be worth 'millions.' Staff recommended appointing a planning‑commission liaison to the Sixth Street For All process so the PC can help shape the implementation priorities and include trail and nonmotorized network ideas.
Commissioners agreed to participate in two regional transportation open‑house sessions (Dec. 12 and Dec. 16 as posted) and to provide research and local context about shuttle options, nonmotorized routes and port/dock access needs. Members discussed the cruise‑ship dock, Lutec/Litnikov docks and the need to involve known users (Delta Western, AML) in dock design to ensure final designs meet operational needs.
Action items: staff will circulate meeting notices for the transportation open houses and the PC will consider naming a Safe Streets liaison; the commission agreed to contribute to research into a local shuttle system and to include nonmotorized network recommendations in the implementation roll‑out.
