The Fairbanks North Star Borough Planning Commission voted 11–0 on Nov. 18 to approve HP2026‑2, a Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) project to install a traffic signal and associated geometric changes at the Parks Highway and Sheep Creek Road Extension intersection.
The project as presented by borough staff and DOT&PF aims to signalize the intersection, construct raised medians, provide a right‑turn lane with a right‑green arrow, shorten pedestrian crossings to a single pedestrian island and add a rapid rectangular flashing beacon (RRFB) on the free‑running right turn. Staff said the redesign also flattens the highway grade through the intersection to reduce winter lane‑departure crashes.
