Jumai Community Health Center wins grants, reports expansion RFP and HRSA uncertainty

On capital work, Mary said three prequalified contractors received an RFP for an expansion project and that bids are due Oct. 31 with an award expected in November. A preliminary hazmat study returned limited findings: no asbestos in vinyl adhesives but some asbestos in localized floor‑joist glue and near mechanical rooms; a fuller report is expected in about two weeks.
Mary also announced grant developments. She said the clinic had been notified that it won a sexual‑assault response grant — enabling local testing and forensic services so victims would not need to leave the community for care — and that she had submitted or would submit additional proposals, including an OpenAI partnership application focused on AI literacy and an AstraZeneca foundation application into its secondary phase.
During questions, assembly members asked about award amounts and schedules; Mary stated that one recent award was $700,000 (referenced for a separate program discussed in the update). She said the clinic would accept awarded funds and then complete required federal drawdown paperwork when agencies reopen.
The assembly did not take a formal vote on the clinic items but thanked Mary and staff for the updates.
