Council OKs $500,000 amendment to airport terminal design contract, raising design cap to $20 million

The Redmond City Council voted to approve a $500,000 amendment to contract 2022-33 for architectural and engineering services related to the Redmond Airport terminal, increasing the contract's not-to-exceed amount from $19,500,000 to $20,000,000.

Zach Bass, Redmond Airport director, told the council the contract has had three prior task orders and that a fourth task order would allow staff to design potential options — for example, reconfiguring pre-security retail, preparing a terminal criteria manual, and redesigning problematic entry vestibules — so the city can present priced alternatives if contingency funds become available. "What we're asking is for the fourth task order ... which would add $500,000 not to exceed, bringing the total for the design up to $20,000,000," Bass said.

Bass said some items under consideration would require structural redesign of the building, which drives cost. Council members asked whether the design work depends on future contingency funds; Bass said the amendment is meant to let staff "get ahead" so the city can return with firm cost estimates and options for later council approval. A motion to approve the amendment was made, seconded and adopted by voice vote.

The amendment funds design work only; Bass emphasized any construction or scope expansion would require subsequent council approval and separate funding decisions.
