Redmond Airport runs expanded triennial emergency drill with regional partners

Jade Hawkins, Redmond Airport security manager, told the council the airport—s 2025 triennial full-scale emergency drill was larger and more realistic than previous exercises.
Hawkins said planners increased participants and simulated victims from 37 in 2022 to about 100 this year, added a criminal-element scenario for police involvement and implemented a new cyber-scribe security requirement. The drill included a mock fuselage (a decommissioned Redmond School District bus), volunteer actors, an off-site walking-wounded staging area and a family assistance center; the American Red Cross provided cots and mental-health support.
Hawkins said the city partnered with Airlink, Life Flight and St. Charles Health Care System, which ran concurrent mass-casualty exercises across four regional hospitals. "This provides a valuable training opportunity for area emergency responders and promotes cooperation between agencies," Hawkins said. She reported more than 130 participants representing 30 or more agencies and partners.
When asked how lessons are implemented, Hawkins explained the airport collects participant feedback immediately after the drill, follows with stakeholder after-action meetings, and documents key takeaways that are used to strengthen regional response plans. The airport retains sign-in sheets, scenario records and after-action documentation and provides those materials to FAA and TSA during inspections, she said. The next triennial drill is scheduled for 2028.
