Instructional committee moves four new high‑school courses to full board review

Curriculum facilitators presented four proposed courses and the instructional committee voted to forward all of them to the full board for approval.
Kylene Chilasquez and Nicole Barnett described three math electives: Math Around the World (semester, 0.5 credit, grades 9–12, history and cross‑cultural context for algebra/geometry/data analysis), an SAT Math Preparation semester course targeted to grades 10–11 for test timing and strategy, and AP Calculus BC (college Calc‑2 equivalency) which staff said already has a projected cohort of eligible students within two years. Chilasquez noted that "Next year's graduating class, the class of 2027, is the first graduating class that needs 4 full math credits." Staff estimated roughly "another 100 students or so" will need access to additional math courses because of that requirement.
English faculty proposed an AP Language & Composition course focused on rhetoric and nonfiction analysis to provide a writing‑focused AP option earlier in the program of studies. Presenters said they do not expect significant additional FTE needs unless enrollment numbers require running extra sections; course availability will be driven by student requests.
After discussion the committee voted to forward the three math electives and the AP English proposal to the full board for final approval and scheduling decisions next year.
