Division backs requiring one hour of nutrition education for physician license renewal

Legislative counsel Beth Dittis briefed the division on LC 25.1384 (25.1384 10.00), explaining the draft would amend section 43-17-27.1 to require the board to require physicians to complete a minimum of one hour of continuing education on nutrition and metabolic health during each renewal cycle.
Members placed the proposal in context: one legislator noted other licensees already have topic-specific continuing-education requirements and emphasized the draft’s modest one-hour requirement. Dittis said the Board of Medicine already has rulemaking authority in the chapter to implement continuing-education standards.
Representative Roar moved to approve recommending the draft to the full committee and Senator Rohrs seconded; the division carried the motion by voice vote. The recommendation advances the draft to the full committee and the standing committee public hearing during the special session, where stakeholders may testify.
