The Legislative Council unanimously approved renewal number 3 of an armed security services contract for the Anchorage Legislative Office (LIO) building on Dec. 16. Senator Stedman moved the renewal for Security Services Northwest in an amount not to exceed $199,449.20, and the council adopted the motion by unanimous roll call.
Procurement officer JC Kestel summarized the packet memorandum and said the renewal would extend the current contract through Dec. 31, 2026, and that two additional one‑year renewal options remain available. Members used the discussion briefly to thank Mike Baranda, who has served the Anchorage LIO for 24 years and is retiring; multiple members praised his service during the transition.
Chair Hannan called for a roll call on the motion; Ms. Truitt recorded 12 yeas and 0 nays, and the chair announced the approval. The procurement office will proceed with the renewal under the stated not‑to‑exceed amount and noted the contract term is intended to cover the 2026 session period if exercised.
