Missouri lawmaker urges expanded pediatric cancer research after constituent’s death

He also told members the family became acquainted with an 11-year-old, Maddox Johnson of Wichita, who received the same treatments and died last Thursday.
The member asked for a moment of silence for Maddox and said he will send a flag flown over the capitol to the family. He thanked colleagues for their support and asked the House to consider ways to increase capacity for pediatric disease research at the University of Missouri. No formal motion or funding decision was made during the remarks.
The House observed a moment of silence at the member’s request. The session proceeded to other business with no immediate committee referral or vote on research funding.
