"A few years ago, we went through all the statutes and we changed all the less than 17 areas to 17 and under or less than 18. Well, we missed one," Kelly said, explaining prosecutors had reported difficulty when language was not cohesive across statutes.
Representative Smith asked whether the law already required the change; Kelly said the bill makes the statutory language cohesive. There were no witnesses for or against HB 1834 and the committee concluded the hearing.
