Board elects 2026 chair and vice chair, approves organizational items and appointments
Summary
At its Jan. 12 organizational meeting the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors elected its 2026 chair and vice chair, adopted meeting dates, rules, ethics and remote participation policies, approved appointments to boards and commissions, and approved a no-cost addition of two roads to the VDOT secondary system.
The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors completed its organizational business on Jan. 12, electing a chair and vice chair for 2026 and approving several standard governance items and appointments.
Supervisor April DeMonts was nominated and elected chair for 2026 after the board closed nominations and voted; the roll call recorded six ayes. Supervisor Steve Fidzikowski was nominated and elected vice chair following a separate vote.
The board also adopted its 2026 meeting calendar, rules of order and parliamentary procedure, a code of ethics and standards of conduct, and a 2026 remote participation policy; each item was moved, seconded and approved by roll call (six ayes recorded on each vote). The consent agenda was approved as read.
On appointments, the board read and approved its annual liaisons and representatives to local bodies including the Montgomery Regional Economic Development Commission, Metropolitan Planning Organization, parks and recreation liaison, library board liaison and other county and town liaisons. The clerk recorded the formal roll call votes.
Separately, the board approved a no-cost rural addition to the VDOT secondary system to add Evergreen Trail and Buck Mountain Ridge. The meeting concluded with routine reports and adjournment.
