Manassas council approves conveyance of Landing at Cannon Branch parcel for Home2 Suites hotel

Manassas City Council voted Nov. 10 to adopt Ordinance O2026-367, authorizing the conveyance of a parcel at the Landing at Cannon Branch to permit development of a Home2 Suites by Hilton hotel.

City planning staffer Mr. Small told the council the parcel under contract to Buchanan Partners includes about 20,000 square feet of the former DMV/customer service center and that “the purpose of the sale is to facilitate the development and construction of a Hilton Home 2 suite.” He said community outreach and project materials had been available publicly for about a year and a community meeting was held at the Landing at Cannon Branch the prior week.

There were no members of the public signed up to speak during the public hearing; Vice Mayor Wolf moved to close the hearing for a vote later in the meeting. When the ordinance came up for adoption, the council voted to adopt O2026-367 (motion by Vice Mayor Wolf; second by Councilmember Smith). The clerk recorded YES votes from Vice Mayor Wolf, Councilmember Smith, Councilwoman Teresa Coates Ellis, Councilmember Ocina, Councilmember Sonia Vasquez Luna and Councilmember Hudson; the ordinance carried.

The ordinance authorizes the city to convey the identified parcel to enable the hotel project to proceed under the terms of the contract with Buchanan Partners. City staff indicated the public materials, contract and press releases have been on file and available to residents for roughly one year.

Next steps indicated by staff include closing under the existing contract and any standard permitting and land-development review required for the hotel construction. The council closed the public hearing portion of the item before voting; no additional conditions or citizen requests were recorded during the meeting.
