Renee Palazzo, superintendent of Glocester schools, told the Town Council on Jan. 15 that the district’s elementary schools significantly outperformed statewide averages on the most recent state assessments.
Palazzo presented state benchmarks and local results: the state proficiency rates cited were roughly 33.7% for ELA, 31.4% for math and 30.8% for science on RICAS; Glocester elementary rates reported in the presentation included ELA near 52% and 55% at local schools, math roughly 56–67% and science rates above 60% at the elementary level.
“Your elementary schools are high performing schools,” Palazzo said, noting that targeted instruction, consistent data teams, and teacher professional development produced measurable growth. She cited Fogarty’s targeted work to boost ELA growth — which moved a component from an orange (needs attention) rating to a higher category over one year — and praised West Gloucester for earning a five‑star rating.
Palazzo also noted the district’s Learn365 grant (round four), which will fund tutoring beginning in February and provide additional support for students identified as needing targeted interventions.
Councilors and residents responded with praise and asked for follow‑up on facilities and budget planning to sustain the gains.
What happens next: the superintendent invited councilors to visit schools and indicated plans for further collaboration on funding and programming for elementary supports.
