The Pitkin County Board of Health approved a three-year strategic plan on Jan. 15 that will guide the public health department’s work from 2026 through 2028.
Director Jordana presented the plan’s three pillars—cultivating a skilled workforce, establishing a data and quality infrastructure, and strengthening community engagement—and explained associated objectives and strategies. She said monitoring and annual reporting to the Board of Health are built into the plan with touchstones scheduled for January meetings.
Board members raised budget and staffing concerns, asking where growth would require additional full-time employees. Jordana said many objectives focus on retaining and better supporting existing staff rather than immediate hires, though deeper data investments could require additional resources and would be brought to the Board of County Commissioners if new FTEs were needed.
Liz Stark moved to approve the strategic plan and the board voted in favor. Staff said the plan will be used to guide departmental work for the next three years, with annual updates to the board.
