Frasier Elementary principal proposed converting the campus into a school of choice focused on sports, wellness and related academic supports; the plan emphasizes extended physical education, arts tied to athletics and partnerships with Texas Health Resources and First Tee of Fort Worth.
Joanne Campbell, principal of Frasier Elementary, asked the Burleson ISD board on Jan. 12 to designate Frasier as a school of choice called the Academy of Sports and Wellness.
Campbell said the program would rest on three pillars ' academic excellence, personal wellness and physical health ' and would expand physical-education time while integrating arts, audio-visual skills and marketing tied to athletics. "The Academy of Sports and Wellness at Frasier Elementary will integrate academic excellence, personal wellness, and physical health to support student success," Campbell said.
She described plans to embed movement and physical response into classroom lessons, to expand art and music opportunities tied to sports (photography, audio-visual, marketing) and to pursue partnerships with Texas Health Resources and First Tee of Fort Worth for student programming. The proposal noted that Frasier has capacity due to enrollment shifts and framed the change as honoring Frasier's long-standing community traditions while attracting additional students.
Board members welcomed the idea and encouraged Campbell to represent the program at the district's school-choice night on Feb. 10 at Centennial High School. The proposal will move forward through the district's school-of-choice process and any implementation steps will be scheduled and reported back to the board.
