Board hears informational briefing on proposed cell‑tower lease at Buckhorn campus

Joseph, identified in the meeting as the board director of operations, presented an informational agreement from a cell‑tower company seeking a lease on a 75‑by‑75‑foot parcel at the Buckhorn High/Middle School campus near the greenhouse. ‘‘They’re looking at a 75 foot by 75 foot piece of parcel ... for a lease,’’ he said, and noted the location is in the back parking area just north of the greenhouse.

Joseph said the arrangement would start as a five‑year lease with options that could extend renewals; he described the longer renewal math as possible renewals that could make the practical occupancy much longer. He told the board the company carries insurance (he cited coverage limits) and that multiple carriers would be able to use the tower and pay rent. Board members asked how revenue would be shared and whether the lease proceeds would go to a district or to a specific district area; operations staff said options were being discussed and that more details would return with a future packet.

Board members noted improved cell reception could aid community members and school safety. The briefing was informational; the board did not take final action and staff asked trustees to review the draft lease and bring questions to the operations office ahead of a future meeting.
