The Milton Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on Jan. 15 voted to have staff continue exploring a partnership with Momumental Physical Therapy and Performance to offer a monthly "Baby and Me" fitness class for postpartum mothers and their nonwalking infants.
Alyssa Reeves, a physical therapist who said she specializes in women's health and runs Momumental Physical Therapy and Performance, described the proposed program as a community-based, strength-focused, low-impact class for babies about six weeks to up to the point they begin walking and for mothers who have been cleared for postpartum exercise. "It's gonna be a monthly class offered outdoors at 1 of the parks in Milton," Reeves said, explaining the class structure: about 45 minutes total with a 25–30 minute workout, warm-up and cool-down, and a short educational component on core and pelvic-floor rehab. She said the class would be free, have a minimum of five and maximum of 20 participants, and that Bell Memorial Park was her preferred location.
Board members asked practical questions about scheduling and registration; Reeves said morning sessions were her initial preference but she could offer other times and that registration would be handled via a Google form to confirm postpartum medical clearance. On the board's motion to "continue to explore this partnership with Momumental Physical Therapy and Performance," the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
The proposal is intended to support maternal health, promote outdoor activity and help new mothers connect with others. Staff will continue conversations with the presenter and return recommendations to the board at a future meeting.
