Lorain County authorizes ODOD grant applications for East and West sewer projects to support workforce housing

County officials said ODOD funding would be used to accelerate workforce housing near economic development sites by underwriting sewer and water extensions, road improvements, site readiness and capital assistance to developers. A county commissioner said the two applications reflect different infrastructure needs on the county’s east and west sides and that the county will apply on behalf of multiple local partners where appropriate.
Both motions were moved, seconded and recorded as approved. Commissioners noted that if awarded, the grants would provide one‑time capital assistance tied to growth and public‑safety needs; project specifics such as exact sites and cost estimates were not addressed in detail during the vote.
Next steps: county staff will file the grant applications with ODOD and return to the board with details if awards are made.
