Garrett Luther was elected chair of the Hutchinson Public Schools board after a nomination and voice vote during the reorganization meeting. The board also confirmed Erin Knudson as vice chair, Mike Mossman as clerk and Sarah Pullman as treasurer by acclamation.
The board approved several routine procedural items, including designation of official depositories and an authorization for the district controller to invest available funds. The board affirmed its salary schedule for members and adopted the IRS mileage rate (70¢), both by voice vote.
Members debated a proposed change to the meeting calendar aimed at giving the finance team more time to prepare reports. After an initial motion failed, the board passed a revised motion to hold regular board meetings on the fourth Monday of each month and work sessions on the second Monday; the change is to begin in February, with a May meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 26 at 5:30 p.m.
The board also authorized the superintendent to make short-term employment decisions and approved petty cash amounts unchanged from last year. The consent agenda passed without public comment.
