City of Sydney — At its Jan. 13 meeting the City Council heard updates on the Northside Park project and upcoming economic-development reviews.
City manager Josh told council staff had received 90% design drawings from Brickyard Consulting and that the design review meeting would be scheduled the following week. Bidding is expected to run from mid-February into March 2026 with project-award dates expected in April and construction anticipated to begin April 15, 2026; the city is targeting project completion by Dec. 1, 2026.
Josh said the city was awarded approximately $1,160,000 through the Game and Parks and CCCF grants toward the park. Staff estimated overall construction costs at about $1,500,000 and noted an estimated $80,000 in labor savings by using city crews for the electrical work.
Separately, Josh announced an Economic Development Assistance Advisory Committee meeting at noon Jan. 21 in the Council Room to review an LB 840 contract and a request from Panhandle Area Development: Integrity Homes has applied for $212,264 in rural workforce housing funds to build townhouses north of Toledo Street and east of 13th Street. Josh said these items will be reviewed by the advisory committee before council consideration.
The city manager said staff will bring the final construction documents to a future council meeting after the design review and before bidding.
